9 Actual Chivalrous Habits of a True Gentleman That Make Women Melt

Image
So I was reading this article that my sister posted, and quite frankly, I was disappointed. None of the habits mentioned in here had anything to do with dueling etiquette or any part of the medieval knightly system and its religious, social, and moral code. It was just cute little things that girls liked doing. And while guys might want to look into those things, because they're really very nice and cute, the title is completely misleading. So I have sought to correct that. Here, without ado, are the 9 Chivalrous Habits of a True Gentleman That Make Women Melt. 1. He Never Turns His Back Upon a Foe Let's be real ladies, there is nothing more impressive than a man who walks and keeps himself in such a manner that his enemies are always in his line of sight. And in days like today, when enemies could come at you from any direction, your man might be a little distracted, but when you see that he's always on his guard, you know you're in good hands. Not to mention, i...

"Yes, And...": The Show Must Go On

Image
This is the fourth and last part of my continuing story. If you would like to read the first three parts, you can do so here: Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 . ~ It seemed that I had finally found my niche. That strange combination of nerds, drama queens, geeks, and people who believe that the best way to tell jokes is to tell all the jokes you can think of combined into one amazing group of people. I would go to workshops every week, and those Tuesdays would be one of the biggest highlights of my week. Fall semester continued, and I started making more and more friends in the group, and we became very close. It was a lot of fun. We had shows, usually twice a month, and slowly, ever so slowly, people were debuted and we got new performers every once in a while. Finally, finals week rolled around, and we had our final workshop. Christmas break was here, and we were all looking forward to not having school, and excited for the new things we would be doing once we got back for winter semes...

"Yes, And...": Welcome To The Basics

This is part three of a continuing story. If you would like to read parts one and two, you can do so here:  Part 1   Part 2 . ~ It was Monday, just over a week since I'd last seen the Seaside Jesters performing in their second show, and I was facing a dilemma. Tomorrow night was Tuesday night. Workshop night.  By this point, a couple people (Peter... my mother...) had been asking whether or not I was planning on coming to the workshops, and my answer was usually something like this.  "We'll see... my schedule's really full on Tuesday. Maybe next time."  There are honestly really only so many things to do on a Tuesday night. I didn't work then, preferring to go home after staff meeting and relax. Going to a Jester's workshop would mean getting rid of my night of doing basically nothing and pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone and do social interactions and various other things that are required of people in a social environment. ...

"Yes, And...": The Continuing Story of a Girl and Her Quest for Drama

This is  part two of a continuing story. If you'd like to start at the beginning, you can find part one here . The story continues with me once again at the Reading Writing Center after that wonderful date.  ~ "Peter!" I said excitedly, standing behind him while he sat at the front desk. "I still can't believe that you're in the Jesters! And Melly! And just wow!" Peter laughed his jovial chuckle. "You know, there's another performance coming up next week." "Oh, I know," I assured him. I'd been very careful to mark down the date in my calendar so I wouldn't forget. "Are you and Melly going to be performing again?" "Melly is, but I'm not," Peter said. "Oh, that's sad," I said. "But you'll still be there, right?" "Of course I'm going to be there, my fiancee's performing!" Peter sounded scandalized. He often sounded scandalized when any of us ...

"Yes, and...": The Story of How I Faked My Way Into Being Friends With Some Really Cool People

As many of you know, I am a significant member of my local improv troupe, the Seaside Jesters . (Go click on the link to like our Facebook page!!!) This is my third semester being a part of it, and my first semester finally performing. The road to get to here was long, and I made lots of fantastically amazing friends along the way. It's also one of my favorite stories to tell, so here we are. It all started last Fall semester. I was working late one Wednesday evening in the Reading Writing Center, where I tutor students on the papers they write for class. I wasn't alone, I had Peter and Melly and Adam (yes, that Adam) keeping me company. Somehow the subject of dating and relationships came up (Peter and Melly were recently engaged) and one thing led to another and I found myself in the perfect situation to ask Adam out on a date. So I did. (Ladies, note. Adam is amenable to being asked out on dates. Go for it.) Adam, as was his custom, agreed, and we set a date for two we...

How to Train Your Dragon 2: A Review (Spoiler Alert)

Image
Last night, in an attempt to preserve what little is left of my social life with most of my friends gone for the summer break, I rounded up a few people and we all went to go watch the sequel to How to Train Your Dragon. All in all, it was a wildly successful night, as the movie was FANTASTIC and we also learned that marshmallows are some of the best treats you can bring to a movie theater. Combined with popcorn and something cool to drink, if you stuff as much as you can in your face before the movie starts, you are so pumped up! when the movie starts. It was rad. However, not only were the company and the snacks top notch, but the movie was pretty good overall. If I used a rating system (which would be highly subjective and full of flaws as I am but a human being and not an algorithm [although those are created by humans and also subject to humans flaws and biases]) I would give it a 4/5 stars. And now, this would be the part where those of you who do not wish to read spoiler...

we're out of time

During one of my church meetings today, I had an epiphany. We don't have enough time to discuss important things. Now, this makes slightly more sense with context. I'm a Mormon, a feminist, a political science student, social media aficionado, and generally all-around trying to be a good person. None of those things have come easy, as a matter of fact a goodly part of me has come with a lot of struggle and thought and trying to understand other people. So, in my church meeting, we were having a discussion on same-sex marriage, and it was going far more civilly than I usually feel it goes, when someone in a corner raised their hand. And, unlike the rest of us, this person didn't want to comment. They had a question, and they wanted to understand one of the finer details of what we were talking about. And, I wanted to explain it. I knew how to explain it. But before anyone could answer, the teacher said "I would love to get more into that, but we don't have tim...

Dancing Man

So, in the course of my daily activities, I spend about four hours of my day on The Bus commuting to and from town (for those of you not familiar with Hawaii vernacular, The Bus is the major, surprisingly efficient mass transit system that goes through most of the island. Town is Honolulu.) Now, I spend a lot of time on the bus. I see a lot of different people. But the other day, one man in particular caught my eye. He wasn't doing anything with any of the other passengers, but he was sitting off in a corner, headphones covering his head, and when he tilted his phone screen I could see that a music video was playing on his phone. But none of those are markedly different from many of the other Bus passengers. No, what made this man different and caught my eye was the fact that this man was dancing . Picture it now. A tall man, with a square jaw and hooked nose, long brown curly hair caught in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. He had bushy eyebrows and his skin was a gol...

THE GRAND UNVEILING

I would like to take this time to welcome you all to my new blog: Properly Pop Punk: My Pop Punk Life. I uh... really don't have much else to put here. Be on the lookout for my first actual post, which should be coming as soon as I have a free evening! Be safe. Don't get eaten by bears. That's not very pop punk.

warning: construction ahead

So, I've been inspired recently to try and start up blogging again. I figured it would be easier (and more fun???) to start with a clean slate instead of just revamping. Of course, if you want to go and peruse my old blog and my old posts, please by all means go ahead and do; here's the link: http://bit.ly/1n8WDml So, there won't be much up yet, and it'll take some time before I'm all set up and ready to go with how it looks and stuff, but I've got a start! Please continue slowly, watching for pedestrians and workers until you reach your destination.
