9 Actual Chivalrous Habits of a True Gentleman That Make Women Melt
So I was reading this article that my sister posted, and quite frankly, I was disappointed. None of the habits mentioned in here had anything to do with dueling etiquette or any part of the medieval knightly system and its religious, social, and moral code. It was just cute little things that girls liked doing. And while guys might want to look into those things, because they're really very nice and cute, the title is completely misleading.
So I have sought to correct that. Here, without ado, are the 9 Chivalrous Habits of a True Gentleman That Make Women Melt.
1. He Never Turns His Back Upon a Foe
Let's be real ladies, there is nothing more impressive than a man who walks and keeps himself in such a manner that his enemies are always in his line of sight. And in days like today, when enemies could come at you from any direction, your man might be a little distracted, but when you see that he's always on his guard, you know you're in good hands. Not to mention, if he's more interested in his surroundings than in you, you know that he completely trusts you not to stab him in the back, so you've got yourself a keeper.
2. He Never Refuses A Challenge From An Equal
I like me a man who lives up to the rank that his birth afforded him. If the gentleman courting me were to ever refuse a challenge from one of his equals, it would cast some suspicion upon his honor and bravery, and ladies, you deserve better that. If he refuses a challenge, no matter how dangerous or ridiculous, you refuse to further that courtship.
And have you seen the men who accept challenges? They are the ones leading interesting lives, the kind of men who will be immortalized by bards and jesters and social media for the ages. It might seem stupid, but he's creating memories, and you want a man who will have fantastic stories to tell his grandchildren.
3. He Speaks The Truth At All Times
This one is a no-brainer. You want a man who will be completely honest with you all the time. None of that old-fashioned "oh, your delicate lady sensibilities will be quite upset if I tell you this hard truth." We are strong, women! We can take it! So when you're taking your man out clothes shopping, and you ask him which top he prefers, and you don't like his answer, tell him you're buying the one that you prefer anyway, and thank him for his honest opinion.
4. He Perseveres To The End In Any Enterprise He Began
You know what's the worst thing about relationships, ladies? Men who are afraid of commitment. If your man has agreed to do something, whether it was to finish writing his research paper before going to that party and does it, or fulfills an oath he made while half-drunk to follow his friend across the country to avenge an ancient wrong between two families, you should be jumping for joy. A man who goes through with these is that much more likely to stick it out with you and your relationship in the long run.
5. He Respects the Honor Of Women
Ladies, you are wonderful. You are shining stars in the dark midnight, and you have honor and glory in your very being that nothing can take away.
So, if any man in any way acts to take away that honor that you have, drop him like one of the hot potatoes you made your servant pull out of the fire. That of course means that you cannot be alone with a man (chaperones are most important), and you cannot do anything to encourage his affections, nor must you let him do anything that would be unseemly and emotional for you. Men who seek to dim your shining star are the worst of men, and they must be shunned by the good community in general.
6. He Makes War Against His Enemies Without Cessation And Without Mercy
There is nothing more melt-worthy for a woman than a man who's making war. When your man goes to war, it's like settling in for a long combination The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings marathon. The action will keep going and going for hours and possibly even days, until he's achieved his goal of brutally eliminating his enemies mercilessly. Then after that's done, you can reunite after the long separation and work together to wash the blood out of his clothes.
7. He Despises Pecuniary Reward
As a true gentleman, your man of course has at least a minor noble ranking, and therefore for his good deeds should seek no monetary recompense. He should actually be refusing the money that the poor villagers give him during his campaigns. There's nothing more wonderful than a man kindly saying no to a village leader's kindness and instead taking only one quick night's shelter before moving on to the next poor village that needs saving. He doesn't need to be seeking out pampering during his war campaigns, and that way he will always have fond memories of his home... and you.
8. He Never Trafficks With Traitors
There are three loyalties to which we should all pertain: loyalty to Church, State, and Family. Anyone who hangs out with people who have been traitor to either of these three are then traitors by association, and you should report them to the proper authorities since you, as a woman, are unable to challenge them yourself.
9. He Seeks and Serves The Holy Grail
I mean look at these men. Talk about melting. Just make sure that your man is laden with enough facts to make it through his quest.
