Kauai's Chicken Game is ON POINT

In case you missed it, I got married June 19. Shortly thereafter, my husband and I ran away so we could go on our honeymoon to Kauai.

It was nice.

One of the things and Isaiah and I discovered was that, much like Laie and the rest of the North Shore here on Oahu, there is no shortage of feral chickens wandering around the lands of Kauai.

The chickens here on Oahu are loud, obnoxious, and annoying. The chickens of Kauai aren't that much more different but LET ME TELL YOU

THEY ARE GORGEOUS

The chickens here on Oahu look like feral chickens. They're a little rough around the edges, a little scrappy, and given a choice, you really would rather not eat one. They're not very pretty.

The chickens on Kauai, on the other hand, are absolutely gorgeous specimens that appear to be in perfect plump health and will absolutely destroy you if you look like you're going to eat food that could be theirs. While getting shave ice, Isaiah and I watched one big rooster terrorize a younger rooster that was just trying to eat a corn chip that had fallen on the ground. As we watched, the bigger rooster went and tried to SNATCH IT OUT OF THE OTHER ROOSTER'S MOUTH

It was terrifying. And impressive. If I could work up the courage to go and attempt to kill that chicken I would totally eat it.

But I'm also slightly afraid in a fight between me and that chicken that the chicken would win, and then my poor husband would be left with nothing but an oath of vengeance on a chicken to comfort him.


This is a chicken that we saw just hanging out in Waimea Canyon. No biggie. Just literally living on the edge.

So, this past week has mostly been pretty chill. Nothing major happened (at least not that I can currently recall) and baby girl has been continuing to do just fine - the normal circumstances of kicking/punching/parkouring inside of me are continuing. You can actually, if you're lucky and paying attention, see the movement when she gets me particularly well. As is common in the second trimester, nesting has started, spurred on by the generous donations of several friends. Mostly it just involves me wiping furniture clean and making pretty little piles of clothes and other baby things until Isaiah and I get rid of/move all of the other stuff that we'd put in the baby's room. Dancing Man

So, in the course of my daily activities, I spend about four hours of my day on The Bus commuting to and from town (for those of you not familiar with Hawaii vernacular, The Bus is the major, surprisingly efficient mass transit system that goes through most of the island. Town is Honolulu.) Now, I spend a lot of time on the bus. I see a lot of different people. But the other day, one man in particular caught my eye. He wasn't doing anything with any of the other passengers, but he was sitting off in a corner, headphones covering his head, and when he tilted his phone screen I could see that a music video was playing on his phone.
